The responsibility of learning, "self-reliance," is put upon the student with this "learning-centered" approach.
In preparation for "self-reliance", a "learning-centered" syllabus is utilized. Algebra 2 is a core foundation course for future math classes. It is expected and clearly stated that students must work hard and be self-reliant in their studies in order to be successful within this mathematics course.
Planning, attending and being independent as well as committed to the coursework are keys to success. Students will average 6-8 hours per week with several assignments due on different days. Assignments and assessments include homework, discussions, quizzes, labs, projects and a heavy use of technology, computer-aided instruction and lab simulations. At times students are expected to work off-line; completing required reading and problems from the textbook. Planning the necessary time to access the course and work off-line is essential to the learners success.
Additionally, online attendance is required at a minimum of four different days of the week. This requirement is joined with the expectation of several postings and regular online communication; making comments and thoughtful comments on a regular basis. This is the online version of attending and participating in class.
Success is utilizing the "learning-centered" approach in conjunction with self-reliance.
